93 years. Born as the daughter of the Railroad boss, who carried his family with him on his job . Leading the team that built the Railroad across the King Ranch in Texas. They linked Central Texas, to the Southern part of the state.
One of Four girls, and four boys, this family lived in Rail cars, during the depression, until the young family landed in San Benito. There they lived for the rest of their lives, and the children grew their wings and made their own way.
In Peggy's young life, she married the WW2 Naval hero , James Thomas Cain , who captured her heart. They built their first home in La Feria, Texas, themselves. That home still stands today. There, she was the wife of the La Feria Fire Chief , J.T.Cain.
When living in their next home in Brownsville, and working for the local Central Power Light company, J.T. Cain was killed while on the job, leaving his young widow to raise their only child, Candy Cain. Having no driving license, Peggy had to draw deep to learn to drive, go to school to become a teacher, while being a single mom.
Peggy moved, with Candy, to Kingsville to complete her Bachelors degree in education. They then moved to Amarillo Texas, where they lived while Peggy completed her Master's degree. She went of to have a long career in education, while raising her adventurous daughter, on her own.
After her daughter married, and began growing her own family with Jorge Ransom. They gave Peggy four grandchildren. At the time of her passing, Peggy had Nine great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her Sister, Betsy Holbert, (San Benito) and numerous Nieces, Nephews ,many friends, and scores of people who loved her.
She will be laid to rest beside the love of her life December 5, 2017 at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, TX at 2:00 pm.
