Pedro passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021 at the age of 54 after a courageous battle with COVID-19, surrounded by the family he created who will continue to carry his legacy by living their lives by the values he instilled in them.
Pedro graduated from Harlingen High School in 1985 and completed his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Texas-Pan American in 1990. He later completed his Masters at Texas A&M Corpus Christi in 2000. Pedro’s passion for teaching and learning is something he was able to share with students in Page USD (Arizona), Calallen ISD, Corpus Christi ISD, Premont ISD, La Feria ISD, Mercedes ISD, and Willacy County State Jail Education System through his 27 years as an Educator.
Pedro met his loving wife on December 11, 1991 at a local Whataburger in Harlingen, Texas while interviewing her to be part of the Youth Group at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Both Katsumi and Pedro continued this tradition every year by getting their same order every time. They later got married on December 18, 1993.
Pedro could be described as a simple man who loved to be surrounded by his family and could always be seen with a cold Dr Pepper in his hand, then later in his life with a Pepsi Zero. He loved quiet nights with clear skies so he could gaze at the stars while listening to music. When he was not teaching he enjoyed walks on the beach with his loving wife Katsumi. He always had an uncanny ability to find happiness in the simplest tasks such as watering his trees and feeding his dogs. His laughter and smile were contagious to everyone he met, as was his ability to inspire anyone he came in contact with. Some of the things he enjoyed in life were: watching the Dallas Cowboys, cheering for the Harlingen Cardinals, fishing, drinking wine, and watching his granddaughter Karalina Anastasia.
Pedro is survived by his loving wife, Katsumi; a daughter, Katarina; a son, Emiliano and a granddaughter, Karalina. He is also survived by his parents, Lauro and Elena Segura, and his siblings, Maria Elena, Lauro Jr., Martha, Linda, Maria Del Rosario, Antonio, Javier, Victor, Juan, Rosa Linda, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
