

Homer “Hans” Lauritz Albertsen passed away peacefully on June 9, 2023, at the age of 92, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on January 15, 1931 to Hans Knudsen Albertsen and Eva (Kemp) Albertsen. He was the oldest of their three children and grew up in Eagle Rock, CA. He attended Eagle Rock High School and later graduated from Pasadena City College in 1953. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years before beginning a 31 year career working for the State of California Air Resources Board.
One of his greatest passions was cars, and he loved to build and race hot rods. He was a part of a team that built and tested the world’s fastest Lincoln, getting it to 157.042 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats on August 18, 1985. His other love was music. He began playing the trombone at age 10 and played in the Peach Fuzz Jazz Quartet, the Covina Community Band, the Temple City Community Band, and later the Oldham County Community Band. It was as a member of the Covina band that he met Joyce. They were married on March 16, 1991 and celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2021 with family.
After retirement they moved to Goshen, KY, where Joyce had grown up. Throughout their marriage they enjoyed traveling, playing in the community bands and being members of their local Jaguar Club.
Hans is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, his father, Hans, his mother, Eva, his brother, Norman Albertsen, his son, Eric Albertsen and his son-in-law, Rick Johnson. He is survived by his daughter, Kristin Johnson, step son, Stuart (Lisa) Robertson, step daughter, Julie McDearman and 7 grandchildren; Gus Albertsen, Megan (Peyton) Tippett, Kyle Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Natalie (Tyler) Scheck, Ellie McDearman and Chris McDearman. In addition, he is survived by his great granddaughter, Addison Tippett, multiple nieces and nephews and daughter-in-law, Martha Degasis.
Services officiated by Susan Lowe will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2023 with visitation from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home, located at 706 W. Jefferson St., La Grange, KY 40031.
