Marie Rankin Garrett went to be with her Lord on February, 17, 2017 at the age of 93. Her recent home of 13 years was with her beloved daughter and son-in-law in Madison, IN, but her lifelong home was in Pendleton, KY. There she was a member of the Pendleton United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Andrew Garrett. Survivors include her children: Ronald Russell Garrett (Donna Sue), Lewis Randy Garrett (Laverne), and Lynda Knoebel (John); her sister, Mildred Hundley; her grandchildren: Drew Garrett (Alexa), Shawn Long (Doug), and Tara Stenberg (Chad), Gina Cann (Greg), Amy Elkins (Joe), Kim Washer (Kenny); and her great grandchildren: Ryan Garrett, Morgan Garrett, Katelynne Garrett, Brandon Cann, Nathan Long, Abby Blades, Cheri Mensen, Brandy Kellenberger, Maxwell Stenberg, and MacKenzie Stenberg.
For the people that were blessed to know “E” (as everyone, family and friends alike, called her), you know she was small in stature but mighty in spirit. Spending her days not only as a devoted Christian wife and mother, she co-managed their 140 acre farm with her dear husband of 49 years. Her daily work days on the farm would rival that of any man’s, and she had her particular role for every job. Outside of the farm, E was an excellent cook, and we were quite spoiled by her specialities at the holidays. Through the years, she also gifted us all with her many talents, where again her hands were hard at work sewing, crocheting and gardening. E kept us laughing with her funny little quips, and she loved to watch U of K games with her family. However, out of all of her roles in life, the most important role she embraced was being a child of God. We praise the Lord for gracing us with her presence for 93 years. There will certainly be a hole in our lives as we move forward.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home with burial at New Castle Cemetery. Visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21.
