following a long illness. Dan was born in Iowa, and was raised by his mother, the late Josephine Cassel.
Dan graduated from college with a business degree and worked as a Minnesota game warden for 5 years in Shakopee Minnesota. He then embarked on a longer career, that he loved, as a US Fish and Wildlife Supervisory Special Agent in Louisville, KY. Dan was an avid outdoorsman who was passionate about fishing and hunting, especially with his beloved beagle hounds.
Dan’s ultimate love was his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Diane (Bowers), his son Todd (Sarah) and daughter Stephanie (Bryan). He also had a daughter from a previous relations, Michelle Bosshart (Gary) of Seattle Washington. His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren, Nick, Daniel, Lauren and Giles. He could often be seen teaching his grandsons how to fish and hunt or tossing a
football with them in the yard. He loved to take his granddaughter to school and stop and buy pink donuts for them both along the way.
He is also survived by his brother Richard Smith of Rochester, MN, and an extended loving family.
A celebration of Dan’s Life will be held Friday, September 15, 2023 at 10am at Heady- Radcliffe Funeral Home, 706 West Jefferson Street in Lagrange with burial to follow at Valley Of Rest in LaGrange. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 5pm-8pm at the funeral home.
