Age 77 of Westport, KY.
On Sunday, November 27, Tom danced his way to heaven to meet God and join his son, Tommy Lee.
After proudly serving in the US Navy, Tom spent his entire professional life spreading spirits of joy throughout the Bluegrass State, ending his career as State Manager for Kentucky with Jim Beam / Future Brands.
Tom was native to Miami, but quickly became a son of Kentucky. After relocating to Louisville, he earned degrees at Eastern High School and Bellarmine.
He met Margaret, the love of his life for 52 years, on a blind date in 1969. They married in 1971 and welcomed their son, Tommy Lee in 1973 and their daughter, Tara LeAnn in 1975.
Tom filled his personal life with family, friends, fine food and free flowing libations. He loved the water, a good Western, a day on the links and making and closing a deal.
The happiest and proudest days of his life were his wedding day, the births of his children and most of all, the day he became a grandfather to Robert Thomas.
He loved spreading joy, wringing every moment out of life and no one was quicker witted. If you knew him, you loved him. Join the family, not weeping in sorrow for the loss, but raise a glass of “cheer” to his memory.
Tom was preceded in death by his son, Thomas “Tommy” Lee Johnson; Parents Ralph Pete & Doris Johnson; Bother, Terrance Peter Johnson. Survivors include his wife Margaret Staley Johnson; Daughter Tara L. Johnson-Wason; Grandson, Robert Thomas Wason; and Sister, Sandra (Arthur) Henson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude, Make-A-Wish Foundation, or Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center/Frazier Rehabilitation Institute.
A funeral mass to celebrate Tom will be held at The Cathedral of the Assumption on Friday, December 30 at High Noon, with a gathering of friends and family to follow.
