Bill Oechsner, beloved husband, friend, and community member, passed away on April 23, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in La Grange, KY, Bill’s life was deeply rooted in the heart of the Bluegrass State, and most of his years in La Grange in a home he built.
Bill was known for his charisma, quick wit, and an undeniable love of cars. He served as president of his senior class, a natural leader from the start. He was also active with the Jaycees.
At a dance — where fate intervened — he met Daphne Deacon. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and decades of memories. Bill loved animals and even owned a pet store for a bit (Wet Pets), and later worked at a Ford dealership.
Bill’s passions extended to NASCAR, collecting antiques and listening to the sounds of the Beach Boys, Motown, and James Brown — the soundtrack of a life well-lived. His legacy is one of kindness, passion, and unwavering dedication to the people and places he loved.
He will be remembered for the deep roots he planted — in his family, his friendships, and his community — and the joy he brought to everyone lucky enough to know him.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife Daphne, father Ernest, and mother Brownie. He is survived by brother Michael (Linda) Oechsner, sister Jo Ann (Doug) Stephan, brother William (Diana) Gladden, sister Susan (Robert) Maier, many nieces and nephews, and Jim (Opie) Tomlinson, who was a constant source of support.
Rest easy, Bill. You sure left tire marks on this world.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed to the Oldham County Humane Society in Bill's name.
A visitation for Bill will be held Monday, April 28, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 706 W Jefferson St, Lagrange, KY 40031 with a funeral service beginning at 1pm. Burial to follow at Valley Of Rest in LaGrange.
