On October 15, 2016, Ae Yong Bergquist, passed away in Indianapolis, IN, after a tragic car accident, followed by three weeks in the ICU. She and her husband were traveling to Texas, in order to visit her daughters.
Ae Yong was born July 29,1954 in Incheon, South Korea in a refugee camp after her parents escaped North Korea during the Korean War. Her parents started a successful business in Seoul and provided a comfortable life style for Ae Yong. Ae Yong determined she wanted to be independent and decided to move to United States in 1979. After coming to the United States, she briefly came back to South Korea and accepted Jesus as her savior when caring for her sick mother who passed away from cancer.
In 1982, Ae Yong met her love of her life, John Bergquist, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they married after dating -- for a month! Endearingly, John and Ae Yong would look back at how quickly they had fallen for one another! Their loving marriage had lasted for 34 years until her death. During their time together, Ae Yong moved with her husband from Colorado to Germany, to Kentucky, then later settled in Michigan where they raised their daughters. No matter where Ae Yong would travel to, she would readily make friends with anyone -- that was her special ability.
Ae Yong is survived by her husband, John Bergquist; her daughter, Vicki Bergquist and son-in-law, Prathab Prabhakran; her daughter, Shelly Xiong, son-in-law, Kou Xiong, and grandchildren, Alison and Caleb; and her daughter, Connie Bergquist and son-in-law, Tim Yung.
Her family remembers her as a selfless wife and mother who dedicated her life to take care of her family. Ae Yong often bragged that raising her daughters to be independent and self-determined was her greatest achievement in life. Her family will deeply miss her presence, her thoughtfulness, her never ending devotion, and great sense of humor.
