

Alva John (A.J.) Campbell, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully at Brookdale Lakeway on Thursday, April 30, 2015. At his bedside providing loving care and comfort was his wife of 61years, Betty Jean Campbell.
A.J. is survived by his two married children; son, Alan and Pam Campbell (Clearlake, TX) and daughter, Kay and John Colapret (Lakeway, TX); two grandchildren Amy and B.J. Erickson (Denver, CO) and Aaron Campbell and Jennifer Kalish (Houston, TX); and two great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Campbell (Houston, TX) and Campbell Erickson (Denver, CO). He was preceded in death by his mother Grace Duke, step-father Perry Duke, and father Alva John Campbell, Sr. A.J.'s family wants to express great appreciation for the dedication, support and love shown to Alva by the associates at Brookdale Lakeway, Clair Bridge Garden Facility, and Legacy Hospice.
A.J. graduated from Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson, KS in 1949. He attended Hutchinson Junior College and Kansas State University and was a Korean War Veteran. A.J. worked as a systems analyst and had a successful career with Cessna Fluid Power for 33 years, rising to a position as manager of computer operations. He was a talented musician, who played the trumpet and sang in church choirs. He also loved fishing and sporting events. While at Cessna, A.J. pursued his love of flying and became an instrument certified small aircraft pilot. He and the love of his life, Betty, took many trips all over the United States in a single engine Cessna. In retirement, A.J. and Betty lived in Hutchinson, Kansas for many years and spent time traveling the United States. In August of 2010, he and Betty moved to Lakeway, Texas to be closer to their children. Many who knew A.J. loved his smile, his sense of humor and his laugh. He was a kind and loving spouse, father, and grandfather.
A.J. will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015 at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Chapel, 411Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, TX 78734.
