Barbara "Barb" Brantner

Barb Brantner passed away quickly, quietly and peacefully at 3:47pm on Thursday April 21st at the Hospice Austin's Christopher House. She was 67 years young, surrounded by love/family, and had given cancer a run for its money by fighting 4 years after getting diagnosed with stage 4 non-smokers lung cancer. She will be remembered as sweet, genuine, positive, always smiling, religious, loved Mickey Mouse and anything Disney, a great friend, and an even better mother and grandmother. She encouraged all those she touched to dream big, have fun, and go play. She made a positive impact in every life she touched and helped make this world a better place, one student at a time. Barb's mantra - "Enjoy each and every day" and she did it.

Barb was the youngest of 4, born at the University of Kansas Medical Center on February 25th, 1949 to Dr. Galen and Evelyn Fields. She was raised in Scott City, KS and received a Bachelor's of Physical Education (PE) at the University of Kansas. Barb married Ted Brantner on August 5th, 1972. They went on to have a son, Tim, and daughter, Bonnie, in 1977 and 1979 respectively, just before moving to Lake Jackson, Texas in 1980. Barb taught Physical Education in K-12 for 36 years in Kansas and Texas, received her Masters of Education from Houston Baptist University, and received many accolades including PE Teacher of the year for Texas in 2002, being a driving force in TAPHERD and Travis Heights Elementary in Austin, and training student teachers at the University of Texas. After retiring she focused on being an inspiring grandmother to 4 wonderful grandchildren; Brant, Chase, Isabelle, and Tyler.

There will be a celebration of life at Lakeway Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd., Lakeway, TX 78734 on Saturday, April 30th at 2pm. Reception will follow. She will be laid to rest in Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to TAPHERD, Hospice Austin, or to any charity of your choice.
