Betty Lou (Henry) Pilkington, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on July 6, 2016. She was born to Lena Pearl Taylor and William Harvey Henry on April 11, 1931 on a farm in Bluejacket, Oklahoma. Betty graduated high school at the age of 16 and attended business school in Miami, Oklahoma. She went to work as a secretary for Phillips 66 Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where she met her husband of 55 years, Robert (Bob) H. Pilkington. They were married on April 29, 1955, and immediately after the wedding, they moved to Bountiful, Utah. Children Kim and Alin were born in Utah, and Betty began her second career as Mother. Betty and Bob moved back to Bartlesville in April, 1960, where Kevin was born. Betty bloomed where ever she was planted during the many moves the family made: Japan in April of 1967 and then to Kuwait in October of that year, back to Bartlesville in the fall of 1968, to Pasadena, Texas in 1970, a return to Bountiful, Utah in 1975, (where she began work outside the home as the office administrator for Mrs. Condie's Salad Company), then to Guayama, Puerto Rico in 1978, where she made many close friends. Bob retired in 1985 and he and Betty made Lakeway, Texas their final home.
Betty was full of creativity. She sewed all of daughter Kim's clothes, even while Kim attended college, and she made shirts for sons Alin and Kevin. She was an amazing cook, and was known the world over (literally!) for her apple pies and cookies. Betty began oil painting when the family moved to Pasadena. While in Puerto Rico, she learned the ancient art of bobbin lace making. And it was in Lakeway that Betty blossomed, becoming a founding member of the Ladies of the Lake Quilters. She left a legacy of quilts for her family. Betty and Bob were members of the Capitol City A's Model-A Club, which continued to involve Betty even after Bob's death. Betty also became active in the Lohmann's Ford Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. And it was in Lakeway where Betty pursued her passion for genealogy, "finding" many relatives as she extensively researched her family's history.
Betty never met a stranger, and she loved sharing pictures of her quilts and her grandchildren and great-grandchild with everyone.
Betty is survived by her daughter Kim Granzow (husband Howard) of Los Alamos, NM, son Alin of Marina Del Rey, CA, and son Kevin (wife Lisa) of Houston, TX, eight grandchildren -- Rachel Leah Granzow, Brian Neal Granzow, Michael Alin Pilkington, Amy Beth Pilkington (husband Mark William Leung), Kate Dearing Fowler (husband Stephen), Mathew Kevin Pilkington, Kristin Elizabeth Dearing and Samantha Diane Pilkington. She is survived by great-grandson Myles William Leung and a much anticipated great-granddaughter due in November, as well as many nieces and nephews. Betty's passing was preceded by her husband, Bob Pilkington, her parents and four siblings.
The family wishes to thank the many kind friends and family who checked on Betty and included her in their lives during the time since Bob passed away. There are no words to express how much Betty Lou will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in honor of Betty.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Event Center, 411 RR 620 South. A reception will follow in the Magnolia Room.
