passing away on May 26, 2022, at the age of 68.
Brenda was born on January 26, 1954, to Jack and Ruby Hurt in Austin, Texas. She
was raised in south Austin and graduated from Crockett High School in 1972. While at
Crockett, she was a member of the Tex-Anns drill team and named football sweetheart.
In the summers, Brenda would spend time at her aunt and uncle’s house on Lake
Austin. It was there that she met the boy next door and the love of her life, Tim Skaggs.
On February 23, 1974, Brenda and Tim married in Austin at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The
couple eventually settled in Bee Cave where they lived for over 44 years, raising their
children, caring for and entertaining their grandchildren, and spending many happy
times with family and friends.
Brenda worked at the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) for several years, but
eventually helped open and manage the family store and fuel business, Hill Country
Food Mart, in Bee Cave.
Brenda volunteered countless hours at what is now Emmaus Catholic Parish teaching
religious education classes on Sundays and was very interested and active in
preserving the heritage of Bee Cave. It was not uncommon to see Brenda selling some
of Tim’s homegrown produce along Highway 71 from time to time in the summer, and
she also enjoyed discovering new items on television shopping channels and collecting
Hallmark Christmas ornaments.
Most of all, Brenda loved her family and cherished gathering everyone together at her
house when time allowed. The epitome of an exceptional mother and grandmother, she
especially loved spoiling her grandkids anytime she could. Brenda had a contagious
smile, a warm heart, and never met a stranger. She was always there to listen and lend
her advice and opinion.
Brenda will be dearly missed by her husband, Tim, of Bee Cave; son, Jason, and wife,
Samantha, of Fort Worth; daughter, Jessica, of Bee Cave; sister Jackie Troutt of
Manchaca; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Brenda’s family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers and healthcare
providers who demonstrated love, patience, and compassion towards her during the last
several months of her life.
A funeral Mass will take place at Emmaus Catholic Parish in Lakeway on Friday, July 8,
at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
