Heaven welcomed a remarkable soul with the passing of Candice Poage Reed, lovingly known as Candy. Raised in Midland, Texas by her mother Margerie and Ben Wiseman, Candy’s life was filled with adventure, kindness, and achievement.
From a young age, Candy stood out for her vibrant personality – she was social, athletic, and intellectually curious. As a teenager, she set the Texas state record in the 50-yard dash and standing broad jump and cheered for Midland Lee High School. Her academic journey took her from Hawaii to SMU, where she roomed with Laura Bush, forging lifelong friendships and memories. Later, Candy and her beloved husband Jack attended both inaugural balls with the Bush family.
Candy and Jack’s love story began in Dallas and blossomed over 47 years of marriage. Candy’s passion for travel led her to a career as a travel agent, giving her the chance to explore the world. She cherished time spent fishing in Rockport, Texas, collecting seashells, and enjoying the outdoors with Jack in their RV. Candy’s competitive spirit shone in trivia games, where she was often at the top of the leaderboard.
Her compassion extended to animals, especially Schnauzers. Over the years, Candy and Jack cared for many beloved dogs – Schnapps, Knackwurst, Rommel, Pumpkin, Liebchen, Wili, Inky, Bismarck, Cede, Lori, Burger – and are survived by Baron and JoJo.
Candy is survived by her brother, Don Poage; her son Jay T. Reed; daughters Robin Sue Reed and Cindi Lynn Reed; and six grandchildren: Wesley Ryan Black, Austin Edward Bewley (and wife Estefy), Bryce Michael Bewley, Meridian Holly Reed, Cierra Joann Reed, and Callaway Temple Reed. She was a devoted mother who made every holiday special and never met a stranger.
In accordance with Candy’s wishes, the family will gather in Rockport, Texas in the spring to scatter her and Jack’s ashes, along with those of their cherished dogs, into the ocean – a final journey together.
A memorial service will be held on January 2, 2026, at 12:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Chapel, located at 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, Texas, 78734.
