He was born in San Antonio, but raised in Cotulla, Texas. He graduated from Cotulla High School, and the University of Texas. He married the love of his life, Susan, in 1973.
He worked as a bank examiner, and lived in Lubbock and Portland, Texas. In 1981, he moved to Victoria, Texas to work at First Victoria National Bank. As a junior executive he oversaw the modernization of the bank, and the introduction of ATMs. He was promoted to President in 1989 and served in that role until 2003. After that, he moved to Austin and operated consulting a firm for ten years.
He and his wife enjoyed traveling. He was member of the Victoria Lions club, and active in the Chambers Of Commerce in Kyle, South Austin and Buda. After his retirement, he enjoyed watching old movies and listening to audiobooks. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Susan, David is survived by son, John Gaddis, of Florida, daughter, Caroline Gaddis, of Ecuador, and sister, Dixie Camp of Dripping Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in David’s name be made to the ACLU or your local food bank.
