Douglas will always be remembered as a wonderful first cousin—full of life, with a huge heart, kind, compassionate, loving, caring, loyal to his friends and family, and a genuinely devoted father. He loved his daughter and his momma with all his heart. Douglas wanted more than anything to love, and to be loved. Those of us who had the privilege to know him and spend time with him can say, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he adored his daughter, his momma, his family and friends, and that he held close his dreams and aspiration to live with vitality and purpose.

He worked hard his whole life—ever growing in his career, pursuing his education, and meeting life’s challenges with determination. He faced hardships, yes, but he always found the strength to get back up, and he grew stronger each time. That perseverance is one of the many ways he inspired those who knew him.

None of us will ever fully understand why those we love pass away, but I rest assured in Christ’s plan of Redemption—His promise that one day He will return, awaken those who sleep, and restore all things. It is my prayer that Christ knows fully Douglas’s genuine heart of gold and his desire for a life filled with love, purpose, and hope. I look forward to the day when Christ returns and we see Douglas again—the day I can give him the hug I wish I could give now.

This painful separation we feel today is not the end. It is a pause in time, and a reminder to cherish one another now. May we give our full hearts to those around us, striving to make the world a kinder place. I believe Douglas would want that—for us to love each other, to forgive, to be compassionate, to move forward with hope, and to be charitable to others.

To his daughter, his parents, his family, and his dear friends—my prayers are with you. May you find peace, healing, and comfort in the wonderful memories Douglas has left with us. I am eternally grateful to call Douglas family. I will miss him deeply.

My memory of Douglas begins when I flew to D.C. to help Sonia and Arthur with their new addition to the family. I truly believe we bonded and we remained close through the last part of his life. He loved coming to Beaumont, playing in the mud, riding the train and enjoyed a big pool party for his birthday with new friends and family. He loved deeply, he was a good father, loved his daughter and   was a wonderful son to his mom Sonia. He was such a concerned nephew and cared very much about family. He had the ability to make everyone in the room feel special and always made sure that no one was excluded with anything. Douglas was very sensitive and showed great gratitude when we did something special for him.Douglas' spirit will live on in our hearts forever. Rest in Peace my beautiful Douglas!

Leyah with her first 5lb bass, I made the cast and felt the line jump, handed her the rod and she fought that fish all the way into the boat. I’ve never seen Doug more proud.

Doug would fish all night if the bite was hot, this was taken just west of Congress Avenue at a spot we nicknamed “Jurassic” for the monsters that live there.

in reflection and friendship. May God bless your sweet granddaughter and keep watch over everyone who dearly loved your son.

In remembering Douglas, my nephew/Godson.  I remember visiting DC from my home in New York City at his birth. Always a happy smiling kid. I remember gifting Douglas a bicycle for Christmas when he was just in 1st or 2nd grade, oh the Joy in his face. I remember the warmth he extended to all around him, especially my mother, his grandmother.  And I remember how he was a proud Dad.  For all those memories, I am grateful to have such a wonderful Nephew/Godson.

I remember Douglas as a wonderful boy and young man, and I am so glad for having had him in our lives.  My heart reaches out to his parents, family and friends.

I'm heartbroken to read and write this. My cousin Douglas and his mom Sonia were so special to me while growing up. We barely ever left our little Corpus Christi bubble back in those days but driving up to San Antonio to see them or them driving to Corpus was such a treat for my family being they both had such radiant personalities, that made life so much more enjoyable. We all loved Douglas and wish we stayed connected throughout life more.
