Elinor Carol White, passed away peacefully after a long, courageous battle with cancer on December 16, 2012 at the age of 76. She is survived by her sister Audrey Wayker and her children, Greg Farmer, Michaelyn Farmer, Stephen Nimmo, and daughter-in-law Cindy Farmer. Elinor was blessed with five wonderful grandchildren: Chris Farmer, Allison Farmer, Rachel Flores, Daniel Farmer, and Erin Shingler. She is also survived by her ex-husband Mike Farmer.
Elinor was born in Oakland, California on June 26, 1936 to parents Babe and Connie Emeldi. She graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1954. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley and achieved a Masters in Vocal Techniques from California State University at Hayward. She began her teaching career in 1972 at Antioch High School in California. She also taught at Chabot and Laney Junior Colleges in California. Her passion for music ultimately led her to being a musical director in a number of local community theatres as well as teaching private voice lessons. One or her proudest accomplishments was performing with the San Francisco Opera Company.
Elinor loved everything about music from the classics to musical theatre to singing in church choirs. She always had a passion for performing and did so wherever she lived. She also loved to attend the opera and local symphonies and found joy in donating to these organizations.
Elinor was a member of Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church and The Wednesday Morning Music Club in Austin, Texas. She had many friends in these organizations that she cherished dearly.
Elinor was comforted by the love of her family and friends. It gave her the strength to battle her breast cancer for four long years and ultimately allowed her to pass to a more peaceful place.
The family wishes to thank Texas Oncology and Hospice Austin and their staffs for their compassionate care. They have eased the journey with loving concern.
In lieu of a memorial service, Greg and Michaelyn cordially invite all family and friends to share their fondest memories and stories of our beloved mother through this website.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Texas Oncology and/or Hospice Austin.
