Joyce’s husband of 64 years, John, passed away in 2017. She leaves her sons David (Carol), San Antonio, Texas; Kenneth, Leander, Texas; Craig (Madeline) and children, Chad and Grace, Austin, Texas; brother, Bill, and sister, Ellaine, both of Denver, Colorado.
Joyce was born on April 17, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, of parents William and Josephine Weiskopf. Joyce grew up in Chicago and graduated from Beloit College, Beloit, Wisconsin, in 1953. At Beloit College, she met John Mansen, the love of her life. After her graduation and his completion of military service, they were married on August 28, 1953.
John’s lifelong career at Shell Oil took the family many places; Chicago, New Jersey, Atlanta, and Houston. Joyce and John retired to Lakeway, Texas, where they built a home on Lake Travis. They moved to Longhorn Village in 2012.
Joyce had a full and rich life of family, teaching, church, and volunteerism.
Joyce began her career as a preschool teacher in Lombard, Illinois, soon after she and John were married. She also taught preschool in Glen Rock, New Jersey. She volunteered for the preschool at the church they attended in Atlanta, Georgia.
She was active in all the churches they attended, supporting preschool education, fundraising and church services. Her church related volunteerism was distinguished for her leadership in the churches they attended and for her support of Church Women United, where she served as president of the Houston organization. Joyce also served two terms as a Trustee of Lakeway Church.
Joyce’s final volunteer efforts were at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, working with preschool aged patients.
Joyce valued and cherished her family. Her sister, Ellaine, and brother, Bill, and families live in Denver, Colorado. Many trips were made to and from Colorado. The holiday skiing trips resulted in many great family memories. Joyce hosted many family and holiday events with her sons and their families at their homes in Texas. The visits by her sons to Longhorn Village were frequent and special.
A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Lakeway Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd. Lakeway, TX. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to www.lakewaychurch.org.
