Marta "Mina" Paz De Leahy

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life filled with grace, we announce the passing of Marta Paz de Leahy, affectionately known as Mina, on May 30, 2025, at the age of 77. She passed away of natural causes at Baylor Scott and White in Lakeway, Texas, surrounded by her children’s love.

Born on November 24, 1947, in Los Amates, Izabal, Guatemala, Mina was the daughter of Enrique Paz (Deceased) and Mariana Ramírez de Paz (Deceased). In Guatemala, she met her husband, David Devereux Leahy (Deceased), and together they built a family rooted in love, faith, and resilience.

From an early age, she had a love for music and the arts. She was a talented soprano and a proud supporter of the Guatemalan Symphonic Orchestra. Her passion for music was a lifelong joy and a gift she shared with others. In addition to music, Mina created religious figurines which she shared with her family and displayed proudly around her home.

She loved hosting gatherings for friends and family. Whether for Christmas, Symphonic events, or family events, her home was always open, her table always full, and her spirit always welcoming.

In 2005, she moved to the United States, eventually settling in Texas, where she spent her remaining years close to her children and community.

Mina was a devout Catholic, and her faith guided her life. She taught adult catechism at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church in Austin, where her blend of compassion and honesty helped many find spiritual direction and personal growth. She was especially beloved for her no-nonsense guidance, which often helped others get back on the right path with clarity and courage.

Above all, Mina saw her greatest calling in being a loving mother. Her children, María Celeste Leahy Paz and John David Leahy Paz, were her pride and joy. She raised them with unwavering support, strength, and kindness. She had a quiet wisdom and a way of helping them become brave in their own time—often through thoughtful encouragement and clever reassurances that made even the hardest moments feel less frightening.

She is survived by her two children and by countless others who were touched by her warmth, creativity, and strength of character. Everyone who knew Mina came away better for it.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and therapists at Baylor Scott and White Lakeway for the compassionate care they provided in her final days.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday June 10th, 2025 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Lakeway, Texas (411 Ranch Rd 620 S, Lakeway, TX 78734) and a Funeral Mass will be held on June 11th, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church (7601 Burnet Rd, Austin, TX 78757). Though her voice has fallen silent, the love she gave continues to echo in every heart she touched.

En Memoria Amorosa de Marta Paz de Leahy ("Mina")

Con gran pesar en el corazón y profunda gratitud por una vida llena de gracia, Maria Celeste Leahy y John David Leahy anúncian el fallecimiento de su madre, Marta Paz de Leahy, cariñosamente conocida como Mina, el 30 de mayo de 2025, a la edad de 77 años. Falleció por causas naturales en Baylor Scott and White en Lakeway, Texas, rodeada del amor de sus hijos.

Nacida el 24 de Noviembre de 1947 en Los Amates, Izabal, Guatemala, Mina fue hija de Enrique Paz (Q.E.P.D.) y Mariana Ramírez de Paz (Q.E.P.D.). En Guatemala conoció a su esposo, David Devereux Leahy (Q.E.P.D.), y juntos formaron una familia basada en el amor, la Fe y la resiliencia.

Desde temprana edad, desarrolló un amor profundo por la música y las artes. Fue una talentosa soprano y una leal colaboradora de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Guatemala. Su pasión por la música fue una alegría constante y un regalo que compartía con los demás. Además, Mina creó figuras religiosas que adornaban su hogar y compartía con su familia extensiva.

Disfrutaba ser anfitriona de reuniones con amigos y seres queridos. Ya fuese para Navidad, para eventos sinfónicos o para celebraciones familiares, su hogar siempre estaba abierto, su mesa siempre llena, y su espíritu siempre acogedor.

En el 2005 se trasladó a los Estados Unidos, estableciéndose finalmente en Texas, donde pasó sus últimos años cerca de sus hijos y de una comunidad que la valoraba.

Mina fue una católica devota, y su Fe fue la guía de su vida. Enseñó catecismo para adultos en la parroquia St. Louis King of France en Austin, donde su combinación de compasión y franqueza ayudó a muchos a encontrar dirección espiritual y crecimiento personal. Fue especialmente querida por sus consejos claros y directos, que ayudó a muchos a retomar el camino correcto con valentía y claridad.

Pero más que todo, Mina encontró su mayor vocación en ser una madre amorosa. Sus hijos fueron su orgullo y su alegría. Los crió con apoyo incondicional, fortaleza y ternura. Tenía una sabiduría serena y una manera especial de ayudarles a ser valientes en su debido momento, frequentemente con su intervención compasiva y maneras ingeniosas que hacian situaciones difíciles de la vida mas manejables.

Le sobreviven sus dos hijos y muchísimas personas más que fueron tocadas por su calidez, creatividad y fortaleza de carácter. Quien tuvo el privilegio de conocer a Mina, se llevó algo bueno consigo.

La familia desea expresar su profundo agradecimiento a los doctores, enfermeros y terapeutas de Baylor Scott and White Lakeway por la atención humana y profesional que le brindaron en sus últimos días.

Se le llevará a cabo un velatorio el Mártes 10 de Junio, 2025 de 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM (CDT) en Weed Corely Fish Funeral Home en Lakeway, Texas (411 Ranch Rd 620 S, Lakeway, TX 78734), y una Misa de cuerpo presente el Miércoles 11 de Junio, 2025 a las 11:00 AM (CDT) en St. Louis King of France Catholic Church (7601 Burnet Rd, Austin, TX 78757) para honrar su vida.
