Paula Leslie Lord Stewart "Lollie". Paula Leslie Lord Stewart, 67, of Ft. Worth, Texas, died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on April 30, in Austin, Texas, after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. Mrs. Stewart was born on October 4, 1944 in Abilene, Texas to James Ward and Trent McDonnold Leslie.
She was a graduate of Abilene High School and Texas Christian University. On December 30, 1966, Paula married Dr. Ralph A. Lord in Abilene, and moved to Galveston, Texas where she taught first grade while Dr. Lord completed his medical training. After a brief time in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and return to the Houston area, they made their home San Angelo, Texas. Paula helped establish and maintain a twenty-three year private medical practice in San Angelo for Dr. Lord. After retirement, they moved to Austin to be near children and grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Paula was a faithful friend, daughter, sister, wife, and mother and always balanced those things with love for being active in sports and outdoors - as an accomplished water skier, competitive tennis player, avid runner, or sculling on Austin's Lady Bird Lake and cycling the Hill Country. She was a zealous soccer mom traveling near and far to watch her son compete and serving as a team manager or on the board of Austin Capitals Soccer Club.
During her time in Austin, Paula was an active member of Westlake United Methodist Church, Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Survivor Group, participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for A Cure annually, and was active in the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority Alumnae Associations of Austin and Ft. Worth.
In 2007 Paula moved to Ft. Worth when she married Bob "B.J." Stewart; where together they lived an all too brief, but venturesome life, enjoying family and friends, spending long summers in Colorado, and traveling around the world.
We celebrate and honor the remarkable person that she was, the joy, happiness and beauty she brought in a simple smile or "hello", the courage and determination she had throughout the duration of her illness, and the unconditional love she had for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-seven years, Dr. Ralph A. Lord; her parents, James Ward and Trent Leslie. She is survived by her husband Bob "B.J." Stewart; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and John Walters of Austin; son and daughter-in-law David and Janine Lord of Round Rock; step-son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Ember Stewart of Glen Rose; step-daughters and sons-in-law, Peppi and Fred Lausen of Houston; and Teddi and Doug Wiggins of Ft. Worth; thirteen grandchildren, Katherine, John David "J.D.", and Elizabeth Walters; Olivia, Liam, and Ryan Lord; Tegan and Sterling Stewart; Landi, Leigh, and Rivers Lausen; Sam and Ben Wiggins; her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Tommy Yater of Ft. Worth; nephews, Scott and Todd Yater along with their children and spouses; her aunt Vicky Lutz; cousins, and many precious friends.
Special thanks and much love to those who helped care for her in her Austin home and those who watched over her for the duration of her illness including some truly extraordinary friends.
