Dana my sweet sister from our Lakeway Schoenstatt Family! I have such fond memories of your family and our time together sharing our faith and challenges of raising a big Catholic family. My prayers go out to you, the children, and grandchildren as you cope with this great loss and hole in your heart. May our Blessed Mother wrap her mantle of love and protection around you and carry you through these challenging days. Remember we are living in exile and we’re not created for exile but for perfect union with the Holy Trinity. May God’s Kingdom welcome Phillip into his eternal home as he experiences God’s embrace of mercy, and be granted the gift of an eternal face to face with Love. A big part of you is in heaven and he strove to blaze a trail for you and the rest of the family to follow. You are truly blessed and we thank God for the gift of Phillip’s life. 

I grew up with Phil during a very special time. Late 60’s thru the 70’s. In a very special place. Lancaster, California. With a very special group of buddies. We left the house in the morning and just needed to be home before the streetlights came on. We lived in a Norman Rockwell painting of middle America. We were the movie “Sandlot.” Many mornings started at one house. The Merritt’s. The perfect place for 10 year old boys to plan their day of football, baseball, basketball, dodgeball, wiffleball, pop ball. You name it, if we had a ball, we played it. Phil, Pat, Mike, Jeff, Glen, Vern, Victor, Danny, Vin, Sean, Roger, and I played together, occasionally, fought together. But always ended up having fun together. I may of went to different High School then Phil, but we still found time to be hang out. So when I got married, I needed Phil there with me, like he had been for the past 15 years. This crew of misfits even had a hand in Phil meeting Dana. During a tackle football game in our 20’s Phil hurt his knee and had to have surgery. And the rest was history. Dana, I remember when he told me he was getting married, he was so excited, and so happy that he found you. You two carved such an incredible life together. Phil is going to be missed by so many people, but he will always have a special place in our hearts. I know he will in mine. Phil, Thank You for being my friend.

Dearest Dana and family and children,   dear Philip's death hurts our hearts and souls.  I miss him.  I also would love to come visit you Dana and family and children.  I am at Adoration at Emmaus on Sunday from 1 to 2  Philip will be in my heart and intentions.  I will let you know when I have a Holy Mass said for him at Emmaus.  I remember Philip being an usher at the 10:30 Mass and talking with him.  What can I do to help you All?  I lost my husband at age 66.  Way too soon as you know   I will be praying., Praying the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplets for Phillip soul and for all his family to heal.  All my Love Prayers and Faith, Hope and Charity. I was so shocked when Richard sent me the obituary.  My condolences go to the family.  I worked with him at BMC.  He was a fun loving person who was a joy to be around.  Even after I left and moved to Alabama, we would meet at Juan in a Millions for lunch.  He had a baby shower at work and I came in wearing a diaper for the shower.  He will truly be missed by all and is now sharing his charm in heaven.  

My love and our baby. He was so happy when James was born. He would do anything for our boy and raised him to be a strong young man. We were so blessed to have him till J reached 18. He rocked our son and sang to him as a baby every night and instilled in him a sense of humor, love for his family and faith

I met my love while I was his nurse in 1987, he sent me flowers to the hospital after he was discharged and the rest was history. We married after two months and had 35 years together, it wasn’t long enough but I will treasure all our days, and live on these memories. I don’t understand why this is happening we had so many plans awaiting us.  He was my soulmate and the love of my life. a wonderful father and grandfather. Your legacy will continue through them my Love.

Philip was like a brother to me. 
The times we would go to Bobo and Grandaddy Merritts house for the summer. Fly balsa airplanes.  All us grandkids went to Six Flags with Buddy Linda and Nancy. Me, Bobo and Grandaddy Philip, Jeff, Peter, Pat, Kelly, Andy and Susan. Lot of fun that day.
Went to see relatives and places all summer.  1971, I will never forget that summer. 
Think about those times a lot. 
 Dana and all the Merritt family, we are so sorry.  Its hard to believe Philip is gone.  
You have our hearts and prayers and comfort.  
May God give you comfort during this time and times to come.

Phillip was my dear friend. I have so much respect for the man that he was. Stern but kind, loving but practical, serious but humerus. The best father and husband. Everyone’s rock , everyone’s go to for advice. May he rest in peace, knowing that he was the best that he could ever be.

I first met Philip in kindergarten. He was sitting on the wall at recess. Obviously he did something wrong. I then laughed at him and found myself sitting next to him. From that day forward he became my first best friend. We found out we lived in the same neighborhood and many sleepovers and hot wheel games ensued. My mother and his became best friends. I last spoke to him on November 14th. His 61st birthday. I will miss his call on my 61st. I pray that his 3 brothers are doing ok.  If anyone knows please reach out to me.  6619726164

Dear Dana and children,

I am so sorry for your loss.

I have such very fond memories of our times together within our family Schoenstatt gatherings. Your father was such a sweet and gentle soul who made everyone feel welcome!  Even when I would drop into your home unannounced, I was welcomed by him (and your mama, sweet Dana too, of course).

Dana, I hold each of you in prayer, placing you all within the Protective Blue Mantle of our Beautiful Mother Mary, our Heavenly Queen. May our Divine Physician, Jesus,  Console your hearts at this time of loss and may the Gift of one another as family keep alive that Love that Phillip readily shared with all around him.

Eternal Rest, Grant unto Phillip, O Lord and May Perpetual Light Shine upon him forever. Amen. Fiat.

Memorial Mass

He is survived by wife Dana and children Megan, William, Phillip, Rebecca, Aaron and James. As well as
his ten beloved grandchildren and his brothers Jeffrey, Peter and Patrick Merritt of Lancaster, California.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Willis and Susan Merritt and his brother in law
Danny Crowder.
