Being a Kansas boy, you couldn’t get the farm out of him. He majored in Physical Science with a minor in Geology while serving in the Air Force ROTC officer’s commission program at Kansas State University. Additionally, he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha chapter. Later, he joined the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant and served for five years. Raymond earned his pilot’s license and flew numerous aircraft, including the T-34, T-37, T-33, and C-133. He flew the longest flight with the C-133 from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Dover, Delaware. He was awarded the Air Force Longevity Service Award before retiring as an Aircraft Commander on January 31, 1964.
After serving in the Air Force, Raymond spent most of his career flying around the world for Continental Airlines. Raymond flew McDonnell Douglas DC-10, Boeing 707, 720B, 727, and 757. He retired at the mandatory age of 60 after 33 years with the company.
He was a man with a kind heart and a friend to all. At the end of the day, he loved his 5:00 o’clock Happy Hour with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Booth of 39 years; his children and their spouses; Richard and Teresa Booth, Pamela Gilliam (departed August 2024), Charlie and Celia Thomas, Tim and Shellie Thomas and their grandchildren; Hailey, Blake, Noah, Bridget, Emma, Daisye, Arie, and Arienna, as well as extended family.
His celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Raymond was passionate about history, especially World War I and II. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Spicewood Community Library at spicewoodlibrary.org. Please visit their funding page to donate.
