Rick enlisted in the US Army at the age of 17 and gallantly served as a door gunner in the Vietnam War receiving a Purple Heart and bronze star for his service. Once back in Texas Rick wore many hats through his life ranging from GM Goodwrench certified mechanic, building boat docks, millwright, building and remodeling of custom homes and horse trader deluxe. His work can still be spotted around the Lake Travis area and only adds to the imprint he made upon the community, including the home he passed in. Later Rick started his boat business, Boat Works, specializing in wood boat restoration earning him the much deserved handle “Termite”, he was able to turn a rotten mess of a boat back to their original grace and beauty through hard work and long hours in his shop. Rick was a bit of an adrenaline junky, in his leisure time he could usually be found working on his nostalgia fuel altered, The Texas Hill Rat or at the racetrack. Believing that “you don’t judge a man by the projects he completes, but by the ones that he starts” Rick had many projects ongoing outside of the Hill Rat, including a 59 Apache built for his wife Linda, a 1950 Cadillac hearse rat rod and a 1973 Camaro to name a few. Rick was a man you could always count on, despite his own occasional need for help he rarely asked and would jump at an opportunity to help others. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He truly lived and enjoyed sharing his passions with his friends and family.
