

Riley was born in Dallas, Texas, to Joseph Monroe Epps and Lonnie Riley Epps on September 1, 1928. Riley earned his Bachelor of Business degree from Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Aggie Corps of Cadets and a championship boxer. Upon graduation from University in 1950, Riley joined Conoco Oil & Gas in Houston, TX. Conoco soon sent him to Butte, MT, where he met and married his beloved wife of 65 years, Ann Sandsted. Riley was commissioned as a 1st Lt. in the US Army and served in the Korean War. He was also an Army reservist until 1966. In 1959, Riley joined the Sales team at Diamond Shamrock Refining & Marketing in Amarillo, Texas. In 1985 he retired as President of Diamond Shamrock (now Valero).
Humble and gracious, Riley was cut from old-fashioned cloth. His word was stronger than oak, and truth and integrity were at the core of everything that he did. Riley always put his family first and upheld unwavering love and commitment to his wife, Ann. He was an active man who enjoyed golf, hunting, and sports. Known for his sense of humor and the ability to relate to people in all walks of life, he will be remembered with the utmost respect and admiration.
He is survived by his wife Ann Sandsted Epps and their eight children: Jennalee Clepper (Mike), Laurel Suchyta (John), Melissa Epps, Joe-Riley Epps (Jaime), Marteen Greek (Bill), Carrie Meyer (Ken), Stacie Scott, and his sister, Connie Leighton (Jerry). Riley and Ann have 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Lonnie Epps; his siblings: Aleda Lee, Virginia Rogers, Joseph Epps; and his son Robert Epps and grandson Ryan Douthit.
Vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 2nd at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, Lakeway, TX. His celebration-of-life mass will be Friday, October 3rd, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a columbarium burial and reception at Emmaus Catholic Parish, 1718 Lohmans Crossing, Lakeway, TX 78734.
