Ed was born January 2, 1928 in Guthrie, Oklahoma, the eldest of three children of "W.E" and Helen Bingman. As a part of his father's employment, the family moved near various oil field locations in Oklahoma, Texas, and Illinois. By being exposed to his Dad's work, Ed developed an inquisitive curiosity about the technical challenges of the Oil Business during his formative years.
When his family moved to Illinois, Ed became a star high school basketball player and an accomplished scholar athlete also lettering in football and tennis.
Ed attended college at the University of Illinois on the GI bill after a tour of duty in Korea where he served in the 6th Army. Ed's college years were spent earning his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and while there he was also awarded memberships in many Engineering Honor Societies.
Shortly after graduation in 1951, Ed began his 39 year career with Shell Oil Company where he would ultimately work as a Chief Petroleum Engineer and which would lead him to varied resident locations such as Odessa, Midland, and Houston Texas, Roswell New Mexico, New Orleans, and New York City. Until he retired in 1990, Ed would travel around the world for Shell on various assignments and to share his expertise as a representative of the company (and a senior member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers) at various engineering conferences which focused on developing new and improved drilling technologies.
Ed married the love of his life, Demie Knox, on April 6, 1952 in Enid Oklahoma. They were blessed with two children: Cheryl and Ed (William Edward Bingman III) who believe that Ed was the best Dad that anyone could ever hope for: loving, kind, generous, compassionate, and full of integrity.
After retirement, Ed served as Treasurer of the Lakeway/ Lake Travis Rotary Club where he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow for Outstanding Leadership on the Foundation Board (2001/2002).
He is survived by Demie, his wife of 64 years, daughter Cheryl Dean (husband Bob), son Ed Bingman (wife Cindy).
