Yvette Elisabeth Lopez, 87, of Austin, Texas, retired Sales Manager of Texas Refinery Corporation, died peacefully at her home on Friday June 20, 2025.
Yvette was born February 14, 1938, in Liege, Belgium, to the late Jacques Joseph Iwan Wertz and Marie Jose Elisabeth Julienne Christen. Also preceding her death was her beloved husband Gilberto “Gigi” Lopez. She is survived by her son, Brice De Ron, daughter, Valerie Lopez, and grandchildren, Dominick De Ron, Marie De Ron, Erik De Ron, Lily De Ron, and Travis Zinzer.
Yvette and Gilberto, who were married 49 years, met in Belgium and moved to the DFW area with their daughter in 1977. The couple spent most of their lives in Burleson, Texas, raising their daughter and their many cats. Yvette spent many years working at Texas Refinery Corporation using her native French-speaking skills to create friendships with her coworkers, many based in Canada. She started as a sales assistant and eventually became a manager, serving in that role until her retirement. After the passing of her husband, Yvette moved to Austin to join her daughter and grandson, Travis.
Yvette was known for making friends with strangers with her quick wit, sly smile, prominent accent, and warm sense of humor. She will be remembered for her kindness, her willingness to clean anything until it was spotless, her love of bright colors, her obsession with cats, her love of Belgium (and its waffles), and the love she had for her grandchildren.
Donations in her honor can be made to Hospice Austin or Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
