Chuck Hulsizer

The oldest child of the late Herb and Mary Hulsizer, Chuck was born on March 30, 1935 in Madison, Wisconsin. His first 15 years were spent in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin where he learned to shoot a rifle with amazing accuracy. He moved with his family to Lancaster, California in 1950 and graduated from Antelope Valley High School in 1953. Chuck worked for Desert News as a delivery man from 1953-1958 before working for 5 years as a test driver for U.S. Rubber starting in 1958. He then worked and faithfully fed the quail for 45 years at the Air Force Rocket Propulsion Lab at Edwards, CA.

Chuck married Colleen Starkel in 1953 and they had two boys. Chuck had many diverse interests. Included among them were: hunting, drag-racing (his original dragster remains on display in a Hot Rod Museum in Anderson), bowling (he once won a car in bowling tournament sponsored by the LA Herald Examiner), and coin and art collecting. He had a soft heart for dogs. Chuck was quietly a sentimental, caring and generous father and grand-father.

He is survived by his sons, Michael (wife Susan) of Davis and Rick of Nipomo; grandchildren Christine and Reid of Davis , Arianna and Dylan of Nipomo; siblings Edward Hulsizer, Marian Tarbell (Bob) and Carol Hulsizer of Atwater, Betty Gehrmann of Sun Prairie, WI (Dan), and Herb Hulsizer and Bobbi Hulsizer of Lancaster.

A visitation and rosary will be held Friday, May 30 at Joshua Memorial Park and Mortuary at 808 East Lancaster Blvd in Lancaster from 4:00-8:00 P.M., a Mass of the Resurrection will be will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lancaster, with internment immediately following at Joshua Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to gather and share a meal and remembrances of Chuck immediately after the graveside services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sacred Heart Church Capital Facilities Fund.
