Earnestine was one of nine children born to Gus and Menoria Hogan Hall. Earnie was born in Shreveport, Louisiana where she lived until she was twelve years old. Earnie, her youngest sister Maryetta, and brother Charles moved to California to live with their oldest sister, Betty Jean Hall after the passing of their mother.
After a brief stay in Rosamond, Betty moved the family to Lancaster. Earnie grew up in the Antelope Valley where she attended Piute Middle School, Antelope Valley High School and Antelope Valley College. She claimed that she earned an AA in spades during her time at AVC due to all the card playing she did. Also, during this time, Earnestine “the wild child” was forced to slow down with the birth of her only child, Damon. Earnie was often asked why she didn’t have more children, her reply would simply be “because I got it right the first time”. With the support of her family and close friends, Earnie continued her education and graduated from California State University, Northridge with a BA in Business Administration as a single mother. Later she earned a Masters Degree from Phoenix University in Business Management.
Earnie worked at Edwards Air Force Base, Plant 42 and then moved on to the City of Palmdale to work as a purchasing manager until she retired in 2008. During her early years, you could find her on the softball field with her friends and co-workers playing co-ed softball. In her later working years and post retirement she traded in her glove for Bunco night with the ladies, and shopping for the grandkids. Earnie was also an avid reader, and she didn’t discriminate as she loved smut – romance, and suspense. Her favorite authors were Nora Roberts and John Grisham. Earnie never passed up an opportunity to travel with family and friends, but her love was traveling to Las Vegas. She would find any excuse to make that 4-hour drive for a chance to become an instant millionaire. Then when Kayla got her drivers license, she became Nana’s Vegas Chauffeur.
During retirement, Nana, was able to spend a lot of time helping care for her four grandbabies. One of her first jobs after retirement, was caring for her favorite and only grandson, Jackson. Whether it was caring for the grandkids when they were sick or taking them on annual trips for their birthdays, she loved to spoil them. Nana taught them how to play dominos, poker and spades. She combined her love for her grandkids and her love for sewing and knitting when she made them costumes and dresses for school special projects. She once made a Betsy Ross costume for Gracie’s third grade speech, and it was perfect! Her grandkids made her tea when she asked, they drove her crazy, but she loved them! Nana kept her freezer stocked for her grandbabies and always made sure there was plenty of mac n cheese and popsicles reserved just for Logan. She carried on the reigns from her sister Betty, of writing an annual Christmas letter about the family, which focused mainly on her grandkids! She also created an annual calendar of all of her favorite pictures from the previous year, again mostly of her grandkids.
Earnie reached many many people, creating a circle of friends who loved her and loved being around her. Earnie was a straight shooter and told it like it was at the same time showing kindness, and a huge heart.
Earnie, Stine, Mom, Sister, Nana will be missed greatly.
