On Sunday, February 26, 2023 George Webb, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 98 at his home in Rosamond, CA after suffering a stroke a week earlier. He was the fifth of six children born to George Lullian and Catherine Corinne Webb on April 2, 1924 and the first in the family to be born in a hospital - the ‘new’, at that time, Huntington Park Hospital. He grew up in the family home in Lynwood, California, with his older sisters and younger brother. George’s dad was a farmer, and even at a young age he was helping out with the team of horses and spent the rest of his life involved with farming and ranching. At various times they raised hay, sugar beets and other crops, hauled cattle and had a dairy.
June 23, 1945 George married Hazel Eileen Olsen in the Brethren Church in South Gate, CA. When farmland became more valuable as homes and businesses, young George eventually moved his family to the Antelope Valley where he began working for Ritter and Godde which he continued to do until his retirement at the age of 87. Here, he and Eileen raised their five children. When their kids were of the age to join 4-H, both George and Eileen spent many years serving as Community and Project Leaders.
Outside of farming, George liked to camp, fish and hunt and ride horses, and this always involved family. He also spent many hours working on his HO model railroad, especially on weekends when his brother, Jack, came to visit. Through the years, George spent time building and flying remote control airplanes with his brother and, later, boating and skiing were fun pursuits the whole family enjoyed. After retirement, his train hobby grew - he built an outdoor G-scale layout, with the help of his son Dwayne, which provided many hours of enjoyment for them and fun for the grandkids.
In the late ’60’s, George and Eileen bought property in the Tehachapi Mountains and they spent many hours there on the weekends, building their cabin, taking walks, entertaining visitors, having 4th of July picnics, etc., and all this with family too. George’s family always came first. In later years, he loved having the grandkids and great-grandkids around. He liked running the trains for them, or riding in a cattle truck with his grandson or going to the dunes with his son, Dale, and family. And he was proud of all his grandkids, how well they’ve done.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen and son Dwayne Webb, and is survived by his daughter, Janet (Rae) Winters, Judy (Charlie) O’Loughlin and and Jayne Ridgway and son, Dale Webb, and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was a godly example to all of us.
There will be a private graveside service for family at Joshua Mortuary on March 8th, and a Memorial Gathering to honor and remember George on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 1 pm, at Wayside Chapel in Rosamond for all his family and friends.
A graveside service for George will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at 0789 - Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, 808 East Lancaster Blvd, Lancaster, CA 93535.
