

Of Lancaster, California passed away from a stroke on September 1, 2010, at age 72. Born May 5, 1938, in North Wildwood, New Jersey, the oldest of four sons of the late Lt. Col. R. Hickman and B. Matthews of Virginia, he graduated from Narimasu American H.S. in Tokyo and served in the U.S. Air Force 1958 to 1966, stationed in Hawaii, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, and California. He was then employed as Electronic Technician at NASA/Dryden, Edwards AFB where he retired after 21 years. Hickman married elementary school teacher Dorothea Hoover in 1964. Hickman volunteered as Indian Guide Leader, Boy Scout Leader, Little League Coach, Antelope Valley H.S. Band Booster, and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary PR Officer; and enjoyed fishing, country music, and family. Hickman was preceded in death by Dot, his wife of 31 years. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Rhonda Hickman; son, Richard Hickman; and granddaughter, Miranda Hickman; all of Lancaster; and by his brother, Ernest Hickman of Florida. Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, Challenger Way and Lancaster Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greater Works Christian Center, 701 W.
