

Mildred Adelaide Burgess-Bowen Sunrise: April 24, 1954 Sunset: December 22, 2020 Mildred Adelaide Burgess was born on April 24, 1954 to Amy Matthews and Frank Burgess In Pomona Valley, Stann Creek District, Belize, where she lived for the first six years of her life. Mildred's family moved first to Corozal town briefly after Hurricane Hattie, and then relocated to Hattieville where she lived for about one year. This is when she joined Bob Reneau's dance group here, where she indulged in her love for dancing and learned to dance well. She was tall, skinny, and the family dancer. The family relocated, to Belize City when Mildred was nine years old and she attended St. John's Primary School. Mildred was introduced to Christianity very early as a child when she attended St. John's Cathedral and Shield Church at Yarborough in Belize. She continued to attend church with her children for many year while they were young and lived a life filled with family, friends, fun and laughter, while providing for her family after she was widowed. Mildred loved dressing up and styling her hair since her early teens, when she became the neighborhood hairstylist for her younger sisters and her friends. This passion led her to a life-long profession in hairstyling. Besides hairstyling, Mildred was an excellent cook ad enjoyed cooking, spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed excursions, outings, traveling, and playing bingo.
Mildred Adelaide Burgess was predeceased by her parents, Amy Matthews and father Frank Burgess; brothers Delbert Matthews and Wayne Thurton; sister Sandra Thurton; three sons, Kevin Terry, Herman Ottley and Noah Alford; her daughter, Melissa Ottley and granddaughter Amy Ottley.
She is survived by her husband Nathaniel Bowen of Belize City, three sons, Eric Alford, Ean Alford (wife Deborah Alford), and Kevin Alford; four sisters; Kaya "Kharlene" Matthews, Merlene Blahak, Violet Burgess, Sharon Burgess; one (1) brother, Francis Burgess, and seventeen (17) grandchildren, Nicole Cotter, Porsha Garbutt, Mercedes Garbutt and Brandon Garbutt, Eric Alford Jr., Breanna Gilmore, Diovian Scott, Mary Alford, Noelle Alford, Joshua Alford, Khalil Alford, Eric Alford, Amy Alford and Ean Alford Jr.; 6 great grandchildren; (Eric Jr. son), Mehkiyah Matthews, Jaydin Latrell Abner -Myles, Sage Alford, Melissa Garbutt, Ava Scott, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who loved her dearly.
