Wilma Anne Chadney

18 mars 193714 octobre 2020

Wilma Anne Chadney (née Townsend), 83, of Langley, British Columbia, passed away peacefully, on October 14, 2020.

Wilma was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on March 18th, 1937. She is predeceased by her father, James Clark Townsend, her mother, Amy Wilma Townsend (née Linkletter), her brother James, and her sister Evelyn. She is survived by her sisters Edith and Marilyn and her brother Tom.

She is mourned by her devoted husband Arnold, her daughters Janet (Rob) and Anne and by her son Michael (Monika). She will also be sadly missed by her 8 grandchildren, Taya, Jacob, Eric, Allan, Rebecca, Lily, Natasha and Nicole.

Wilma graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Saskatchewan in 1960 and taught for many years before becoming a librarian when she and her husband moved to Saudi Arabia. Living in Saudi Arabia for 12 years gave her and her family the opportunity to travel to many countries and she set foot on all but one continent. She and her husband, Arnold had marked their 60th anniversary in August, 2020.

Upon retiring to Langley, Wilma continued to pursue her many artistic interests. Her friends and family will remember her every Christmas as they bring out the ceramic nativity sets she created. She was an accomplished pianist and painter and she filled her home with images she created to commemorate her travels. She wrote and published a novel and was working on a sequel but dementia prevented its completion. She was also an active volunteer with the Sharon United Church outreach programs and enjoyed singing in the church choir.

We wish to express our profound gratitude to the staff of Rosewood at the Langley Extended Care Unit. It was clear in Wilma’s face and by her attitude toward the staff that she felt cared for and safe in their capable hands.

In lieu of flowers, we would be grateful for donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of British Columbia or the Langley Senior Resources Society who provided Wilma with so many enjoyable activities in their day program.

Due to Covid19 restrictions, there will be no public gathering. For those wishing to share their memories and condolences, Henderson’s Langley Funeral Home has graciously provided an online space for friends and family to share their memories of Wilma.

The Langley Field Naturalists would like to share their deepest condolences to Arnold and the Chadney family. Wilma was an active member of the club in early 2000 and led walks for the club in the many beautiful parks in our area, Houston Trail to name one. Wilma wrote articles for the club quarterly newsletter with colourful descriptions of the natural places to discover and enjoy around the Lower Mainland. Thank you for sharing Wilma with us.
