Ada Chaney Joffrion
February 6, 1937 ~ March 24, 2014
On February 6, 1937, in Choctaw, Alabama, Russell and Annie Chaney welcomed the birth of Ada, the third of their ten children. In 1951, the family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Ada attended Las Vegas High School where she became a prolific storyteller and lover of poetry. It was during that time that she met and married her first husband, Evett Jennings. Of that union Angelo, Anthony, Harriet Renee`, and Keith were born.
Although she held various hotel and casino positions, her real love was being a housewife and mother. In 1960, she added a second daughter, Leslie, to her family, and shortly thereafter married the love of her life, Alfred (Joe) Joffrion. That union produced her last child, Lydia in 1965. Joe was in the Air Force and took the family from Las Vegas to Texas, Maryland, France, Germany, Taiwan, and back to Texas before returning home to Las Vegas.
Ada was always a strong, independent woman, who never let life defeat her. She retired from the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino in 2005. Ada was a devoted member of Mountaintop Faith Ministries where she worked for the Lord in the women’s empowerment group and the 5am prayer ministry.
Ada is preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Annie Chaney; her sisters, Truvella and Dixie; two brothers, Warren and Russell; and her daughter, Harriett Renee'.
She leaves her children, Angelo, Anthony, Keith Sr., Leslie and Lydia; grandchildren, Ashleigh, Anjanette, Keith C., Keith D. Jr., Keith D. III, Keithan, Eduardo, Jonathan, Robert, Whitney, and Mona; a host of great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth, Doretta, and Sylvia; brothers Speedy and Scott; and many dear friends to cherish her memory.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 30th from 3-7pm at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N Main Street, Las Vegas. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 31st at 11am at Mountaintop Faith Ministries, 2845 Lindell Road, Las Vegas. Ada’s final resting place is Woodlawn Cemetery, 1500 N Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas.
