Arlandres “Bill” Tarvins, an only child, was born January 23, 1932, in New Orleans, Louisiana. In his early years he enlisted in the Army serving 3 years and receiving an Honorable discharge in 1953. Residing in Oakland, California he had his first three children, Arlandres Tarvins Jr., (Irma Tarvins, Mother); Arlette (Tarvins) Lockson and Alaska Tarvins (Orlene Tarvins, Mother). Bill, not being a fan of cold weather decided to move to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he met and married his wife Aletha Tarvins of 53 years. During that union they had 3 children, Elander Craft, Caroline Tarvins Clark, and Irma Tarvins Coward, creating a blended family with Charles Lonnie Craft, Lillie Mae Craft, Dorothy Craft, and Dwayne D. Craft. After a life with Aletha of 53 years, she transitioned to be with the Lord on April 17, 2012, and a short time later, he met and married his current wife Sharone Randolph and became Uncle Bill to stepdaughter Kamiya Randolph and grandkids until his death on April 12, 2023.
Bill worked for many years and retired from the Parks and Recreation Department of The City of Las Vegas. Bill was a man of faith, always quoting scriptures to whomever would listen, and was 100% ready when GOD sent the Angels to escort him home. Bill served as a Deacon at Full Gospel Temple of Jesus Christ Church and taught bible study for many years. Bill or “Pops” as some would call him, loved to travel and was very adventurous. He would pack up and drive to whatever destination his heart desired, whether by motorhome, car, truck, off road adventures visiting hot springs, and setting sail on a cruise with the family where he showed off zip lining in his 80’s. Bill had a true gift for making the Rue for family Gumbo, and his daily specialty was being King at playing Dominos. No one could beat him, and he taught all his boys, sons-in-laws, and grandsons to play hard, read the bones, and learn different strategies against the opponents. One of his famous sayings was, “It’s hard to beat, Bill and his boys!” Being a well-respected role model throughout the family, he gained the nickname, “Shack Bully.” Bill enjoyed watching all kind of sports but had a love for the San Francisco 49’s and was looking forward to an adventure on a trip across country by train but was not able to get to it before his passing. We all will miss “Shack Bully, Pops, Grandpa, Dad, Husband, Brother and Uncle!”
Arlandres “Bill” Tarvins departed this life April 12, 2023, at the age of 91, surrounded by his current loving wife Sharone, whom he called “Hollywood” and sons and daughters who were blessed to be able to say their final goodbyes.
