Atanasia “Tani” Chavez was born in 1929. She was the fifth of six children born to Eloisa and Julian Chavez in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She went to catholic school for all her education and graduated from St. Mary’s high school in 1948. She attended Browning Commercial School where she learned typing, shorthand, and other secretarial skills. She married the love of her life, Adam Trujillo, Jr. on August 1, 1953. Unable to have children on their own, Adam and Tani adopted two children; Rick in 1960 and Rebecca in 1962. Tani loved being a mom and doted on her children. Being the mother to Rick and Rebecca was her pride and joy and she devoted her life to being the best mother and wife she could be. In 1969, the Trujillo’s left Albuquerque and made Las Vegas, NV their home for the next 53 years. Adam worked for Sandia National Laboratory and started working at the Nevada Test Site. Adam and Tani attended St. Francis de Sales church and Rick and Rebecca attended the elementary school. Tani was a dedicated volunteer in the classrooms for the parish school. When the kids got older, in junior high, Tani went back to work at EPA and worked there until she retired. Adam and Tani sent Rick and Rebecca to Bishop Gorman High School. One of Tani’s many hobbies through the years was decorating cakes. She did an amazing job and loved doing this for friends and family. It was in her nature to always lend out a helping to those in need, whether it be a friend, neighbor, or other parishioners of the church. Tani and Adam’s first grandchild, Taylor Ann, was born in 1987. Adam came around a couple of years later in 1989. The youngest grandchild, Samantha Elizabeth, was born in 1992. She adored her grandchildren and would do anything to be with them. Many wonderful memories were created on Pacific Grove Drive in Los Prados that will last a lifetime. Tani and Adam got to travel after their retirement and would meet family and friends for cruises. She took pride in being the best wife, mother and grandmother. Her sisters and brothers were her best friends – she was extremely close to all of them. She was a devout catholic and always had a rosary close at hand saying her daily prayers.
Tani is preceded in death by her parents, Julian and Eloisa Chavez, all five of her siblings, Dolores Gilbert (Arthur), Susie Kocina, Ted (Lucy), Paul (Armelina), and Fabiola “Yola” Morgans, her son, Ricardo Martin, her husband, Adam Trujillo, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Trujillo (Portland, Oregon), her grandchildren, Taylor Anello (Fernando), Adam Trujillo, Samantha Elizabeth, daughter-in-law Brigid Higgins, her only great grandchild, Olivia Lucia Anello, her 22-year-old Shih Tzu, Angel and two brothers-in-law, Bob Morgans and Neil Kocina.
