Billye Jeanne Williams, 78, died peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2014 in the comfort of her home with her family in Las Vegas, Nevada after a three year battle with ovarian cancer. Billye was born May 15, 1935 in Mexia, (now known as Paducah) Texas, the daughter of Lee Andrew and Luama Wooley. The youngest of five children, Billye was a bright, observant and curious child.
Billye committed to love, marriage and family in 1959 when she joined Landry Joseph Williams in holy matrimony and life. From their union of 56 years they raised four children, three grandchildren.
Billye developed early interests in helping others and sought a career in nursing to further develop her interest and skill in a helping profession. She studied and graduated with her nursing degree from Mt. Saint Mary’s College in Tucson, Arizona and later attained her Masters Degree from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. In both instances she was the honored valedictorian. She served others through nursing in Los Angeles County for over 25 years, where upon retirement she had ascended to the level of Hospital Administrator at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital located in Southern California.
As a young child, Billye’s parents taught and modeled the walk of faith and introduced her to the power of intentionally helping (aka Mission work). It was all about mission for Billye – extending oneself in delivering help to another near and far. Billye loved the Lord and as a member of Calvary Southern Baptist Church in Las Vegas, Nevada held the position of Women’s Mission Union (WMU) Director. There she spearheaded a number of local and foreign missionary campaigns that continues today.
Billye is survived by her husband, Landry J. Williams, daughters, Jocelyn Williams, Karen (Williams) Evans, Andrea Williams and son, Landry Williams Jr. (daughter-in-law, Jeanna Loupe); grandchildren, Jessica Evans, David Evans and Landry Williams III, along with a host of extended family members and friends.
