Calvin P. Gilliam passed away on July 6, 2017. He was born on December 5, 1944 in Cisco, Texas, where he lived until he graduated from high school in 1963. He received his electronics technician training from Fort Worth College and moved to Las Vegas in 1965 to work for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, where he worked until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1968. Calvin served six years in the Navy and was a Vietnam Vet. Upon discharge from military service, he returned to Las Vegas, where he lived the rest of his life. He retired from the Federal Aviation Administration after 45 years of government service, and he was one of the best electronics technicians ever to work for the FAA, often called to fix problems other technicians could not fix at airports throughout the country. In retirement, he enjoyed bowling with friends at the Suncoast, partaking in the Las Vegas lifestyle, and spending time with family and friends. Calvin leaves behind his beloved son, Michael, and Michael’s wife Sara, the grandchildren he adored, Maxwell and Madison, his brother, Larry Gilliam, and his former wife and friend, Cindy Gilliam. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Calvin’s name to your favorite veterans’ charity.
Arrangements under the direction of Palm South Jones Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
