September 27, 2025 Saturday, Carey said good bye to many friends and family members who had come to love him as a very special man. Born and raised in Des Moines IA, Carey was a high school athlete who then went on to participate in judo with General George La May on Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha NE. After living off base with his brother, Ryland, wife Teresa and nephews Eugene, Dane and Carey, he was stationed at SAC headquarters in Saunderstrom, Greenland for a year. Released in New Jersey, July 1960, Carey bought a new car and drove back home to Des Moines with his wife Carolyn, then moving to Los Angeles. There, 2 sons were born, Marcus and Ricky in early 1960's. After working at the LA Main
Post Office, Carey attended Lapin Beauty School in Hollywood, opening his own shop with his friend George. Even as late as 2024, a bill would come in for renewal of his California Cosmetology license!!!
Joining Los Angeles County Fire Department in 1967, Carey was stationed in Hollywood, Malibu and Universal Studios stations over 28 years of service. Making friends with other firefighters who enjoyed playing golf, there were many trips to Palm Springs, Carmel CA, Hawaii, and Nevada. After retiring in 1990, Carey and Noreen move to Las Vegas NV. Still a young retiree, much thought was given to what the next stage of life would bring, after all -- how much time can you spend polishing and vacuuming cars and boats.
Being a body builder, interested in fitness and improving his health, Carey went to massage therapy school in Las Vegas and specialized in Neuro Muscular therapy. One mentor, Paul St John who taught seminars on his techniques asked Carey to be a student advisor to help teach students who attended classes. Over the 35 years of helping people get better through deeр tissue and trigger point massage, many clients continue to place Carey as a friend for life, not just a healer. Clients included world class fighters, boxers, football players, to young people with growing pains from gymnastics and Irish dancing!!! Car accident victims, everyday injuries from work and sports pain, anyone who was treated by his magical powerful hands, knew they were on the road to recovery. While on his table, people were a captive audience for Carey to teach anatomy, while telling them "The pain will release, just tell me when".
Carey left this world as he lived his life, always with a quiet demeanor, listening and with appreciation for the love given. His big green eyes were his charm for the ladies and caretakers at the end of sessions a big smile and a wink!!! His signature "thank you" for helping me!! No matter what the age, the ladies giggled like teenagers. The men got a Thumbs up and handshake thank you.
Carey spent his life loving golf, body building, watching football and betting the games. When asked his favorite team, "the one with the best odds of the day"
Thanks to professionals in the health care field who helped to make Carey comfortable since May 2025. Special acknowledgement to CNA, GE-GE, who provided support and health care to both of us, as well as friends, Chip & Aimee, whose strength gave us the comfort to move forward.
Interment will be at Inglewood Park Cemetery in CA, where he will join his mom, Bea, dad, Carey and brother Kenny. Brother Bobby is laid to rest in the Veterans Cemetery in Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Carey with contributions to LA County Fire Museum, 9834 Flora Vista, Bellflower CA 90706 or BLAST/LAS VEGAS, a non-profit organization for female student athletes in softball participation. Contact Las Vegas Blast, 702-327-6821, Кanani. He always believed that strong bodies were the foundation of being a good person.
