Carole J. Demostene Newby

Carole Jean Newby was born Feb. 22, 1938, in Healdsburg, Calif., to Verma and Ernest Demostene. Carole graduated from Healdsburg High School in 1956 and attended secretarial school in Santa Rosa, Calif. She relocated to Las Vegas as a newlywed in 1959, working as a legal secretary for many notable attorneys including Harry Claiborne. She was active in the Our Lady of Las Vegas Women's Guild and the Las Vegas Legal Secretaries Association. In her later years, she enjoyed time in Duck Creek Village, Utah, and San Clemente, Calif. Recently, she was a member of the Los Prados Women's Association. Carole is survived by her son, Donald (Shirley) E. Newby; daughter, Jill (Randal) Colquitt; granddaughters, Kierra Newby and Claire Colquitt; grandson, Randal Scott Colquitt; great-grandchildren, Trystin, Tanner and Trent, all of Las Vegas; granddaughter, Alyssa and great-granddaughter, Chloe of South Lake, Texas; sister, Patte Bosio of Healdsburg; and niece, Nanci Hockert, of Windsor, Calif. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, of 49 years, Charles E. Newby of Las Vegas. A memorial service for Carole will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Palm Mortuary – Northwest, located at 6701 N. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas. Immediately following, a reception will be 2-5 p.m., in the Scottsdale Ballroom, at Aliante Station, located at 7300 Aliante Parkway, N. Las Vegas.
