

Christine was born August 23, 1946, in Roseau, Minnesota to Carl Grand and Agnes Folling Grand. Christine loved spending summer days at Lake Of The Woods with her family and friends.
In 1964, Christine graduated from Roseau High School. She then went on to receive her LPN degree from Crookston School of Nursing. Christine pursued her career in Nursing in Fargo, Minnesota, which is where she met her future husband Phillip Smolz.
Christine married Phillip J. Smolz on June 3, 1967 in Roseau, Minnesota. The two were each other’s lifelong companions and friends. They were fortunate to have two daughters, Tania Smolz Kasten and Tara Smolz Thompson.
Christine and Phillip resided in Hibbing, Minnesota until 1972, when they took the journey west and settled in Pueblo West, Colorado. They were some of the very first residents in this new, small town. Phillip worked as a pharmacist at Grove Drug in Pueblo, and Christine worked as the school secretary at Pueblo West Elementary School.
Christine and Phillip made many friends and were active members of the community. They were founding members of the Gunslingers Club. They were a part of the group that organized the first 4th of July celebrations.
In 1997, Christine and Phil purchased Grove Drug Store. Christine retired from the School District and became co-owner of the store. In 2005, they sold Grove Drug and moved to Las Vegas to be with their family.
In Las Vegas, Christine was very active. She joined groups such as the Westside Newcomers Club. She enjoyed playing Mahjong and Canasta with her friends. Christine loved cruising and traveling and seeing new sights with her family.
Christine is survived by her husband Phillip, and daughters Tania Kasten and Tara Thompson (husband Randy Bloch); granddaughter Kristina Kasten-Stewart (husband David Stewart).
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Sandra Ochoa, brother Charles Grand, and son-in-law Leland Kasten.
Christine will be remembered for her warm and friendly personality and her giving spirit. She was outgoing and bubbly and lived a beautiful life.
