October 18, 1945 to October 12, 2019
Dave Sweikert went to the Lord Saturday, October 12, 2019, at the age of 73. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Susan, his children: Samantha DuVall (Robert), Steven Sweikert (Charlene) and Darren Sweikert (Kiplyn), his grandchildren: Taylor DuVall (Kyle Stuckey), Wyatt DuVall, Dylan Sweikert, Diantha Sweikert, Wolf Sweikert, Rylie Sweikert and Bella Sweikert, as well as his brother Jerry Sweikert (Mary) and numerous nieces and nephews.
On August 12, 1968, Dave was honorably discharged from the US Navy, where he served on the USS Ranger during the Vietnam War. On August 15, 1968, he was hired by the Las Vegas City Police Department (which later became Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department). He retired from LVMPD at the rank of Deputy Chief on January 8, 1999. He was dedicated to serving his community and his country well.
Dave graduated from UNLV with a Master’s Degree. He also graduated from the Senior Management Institute for Police in Boston, which was taught by a Harvard professor. The County of Clark issued a proclamation honoring Dave for his work to improve the lives of Clark County residents.
Dave loved having family get-togethers, usually barbeques, which his grandchildren called “Papa-Qs.” He was a big UNLV fan and a scholarship donor. He also loved playing golf with his friends regularly. The world has lost one of its all-time greatest party planners.
Services will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at 10:00am at Palm Mortuary Northwest, 6701 North Jones Blvd. In lieu of flowers, our family asks that you kindly consider making a donation in Dave’s honor to either The City of Hope, Duarte, CA for cancer research or Nathan Adelson Hospice, Las Vegas, NV. He received such excellent, tender care from staff at both places.
