Dolores Eloise Doyle

Dolores Eloise Doyle (nee Mowrey), 88, passed away peacefully on Nov. 12, 2011 while visiting with her son at his home in Las Vegas, Nev.. Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, at Gray Funeral Home, 318 E. Broad St., Westfield, N.J. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov, 19, 2011, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 315 First St., Westfield. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. Dolores' childhood was spent in Springfield, N.J. and after marrying her beloved late husband, Roger, together raised their four children in Westfield. After retiring from her work as office manager for Dr. Phillip Grey, Dolores had a wonderful life spending her summers at her home in Beach Haven, N.J., and her winters at her home in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. She traveled all over the world, but always came home to be with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the holidays. Dolores had a special place in her heart for volunteering. With the shortage of nurses during World War II, she spent hours volunteering as a nurse's aide at Overlook Medical Center. As a young mother, she continued volunteering for the American Red Cross, visiting with veterans at the Lyons Veterans Center helping to make their lives a little better. Later, Dolores was a Boy Scout den leader, Girl Scout leader and longtime member of the Women's Club of Westfield. Once leaving the local area, she followed her volunteer spirit by spending hours donating her time to the Long Beach Island Historical Society's Kitchen Cabinet and the Needler's Club of Saw Grass by knitting baby blankets for the families of the men and women stationed at Jacksonville Naval Station. Surviving are her loving children, Roger (Carol) of Glastonbury, Conn.; Lawrence (Joe Lamarca) of Las Vegas, Nev.; Kathleen Frost (Richard) of Carlisle, Pa. and Robert (Lorraine) of Rocky Hill, Conn. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a very special niece, Joyce Hale, who will miss her dearly. In keeping with Dolores' love of volunteer work, donations may be made in her honor to the American Red Cross chapter of choice
