Don Foster was a hardworking man. Don was a very traditional man, who worked to provide his family a good life. Don loved to say that his wife Maxine raised the family while he always made sure they had all the things they needed.
Don Foster lived life on his own terms. He loved to drink his beer, and he enjoyed holding court over family and friends to talk about his life and adventures. Don loved to camp and fish. He genuinely loved when his children and grandchildren would join him on the camping and fishing trips.
Don was born on June 25, 1935 in West Virginia. He attended and graduated from Walton High School. His parents were Harold and Gypsy Foster. Don was raised with his three brothers, Mick, Garland and Larry, each of whom preceded Don in death.
On April 5, 1958 Don and Maxine exchanged their wedding vows at their minister's home in Waco, Texas.
Don and Maxine had five children, Angela, Donald Jr., Michael, Robert and Darryl. They were blessed with his eighteen grandchildren and great grandchildren: Tiffany, Jennifer, Michael, Ashley, Staycee, Michelle, Ryan, Daniel, Colton, Shannon, Danielle, Emily, Haley, Jordan, Keagan, Sydney, Jude, and Juliana.
Don proved to be a wonderful grandfather. He found redemption in the opportunity to spend time with each of them, even if that sometimes only included phone calls and FaceTime.
Don was an Air Force veteran. He was also a long time Air Force reserve member. It was during this time as a reserve, that Don was able to travel the world. Some of our favorite times with him was when he would tell the stories of those days.
In 2005, Don and Maxine fully retired and relocated to Prescott, Arizona. It was during this time that Don and Maxine shared their greatest love. It was during this time that they truly became inseparable. As Don aged, he suffered with Macular Degeneration, but this didn’t stop him from driving for several years. In fact, we observed when he would drive and Maxine would fully navigate from the passenger side. But that was our father; always wanting to maintain control of his life and do things for himself. He was a strong and stubborn man and he taught his children those very traits.
Don passed away on May 18, 2017. He died just as he lived his life, on his terms. He is survived by his five children and eighteen grandchildren. Services were held at Palm Northwest Mortuary. Don was laid to rest in Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Maxine Foster. Don Foster lived his life to its fullest. He could be tough, but he was more likely to be kind, funny and loving. There is no question that his greatest joy was the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
