

Doris E Harrison was born in Madison Parish, LA on March 27, 1937. She was the tenth child between the union of Nina Crawford and William B Harrison. She accepted the Lord at an early age. Her parents instilled in her their beliefs in Christ. Doris applied the aspect of religion everyday of her life, and, in turn, instilled this virtue in her children. Doris was a member of St Matthew A.M.E Church in Tallulah, LA and she was faithfully devoted to the Lord her entire life.
Doris was highly educated, earning her bachelor degree from Southern University. All six of her sisters were educators, She continued the family's legacy by becoming a teacher and pursuing her Masters. Doris soon met James R. Hooper, both natives of Tallulah. The two courted while she attended Southern and he attended their rival, Grambling State University. On May 9, 1960 James and Doris were married. Shortly afterward, they welcomed their first addition to the Hooper family, daughter Cheryl was born.
In 1961, Doris and James continued their journey by moving to Las Vegas, Nevada. Doris continued teaching while James became a member of the staff at the Nevada Test Site. After adding four more children to their family, they moved to Southern California in 1969. Doris raised her family while teaching at various schools in Long Beach, Lakewood, and Riverside over the next ten years. In 1979, she returned to Las Vegas and continued teaching while spending more quality time with her husband. James and Doris enjoyed their marriage for the next 30 years, until James went to live with the Lord. Doris lived out the remainder of her life in Las Vegas with her loved ones. Despite extreme medical adversity, she persevered. She remained the perfect example of a virtuous woman until passing away peacefully in her home surrounded by family.
Preceding Doris in death were six lovely sisters, three brothers, her devoted husband James R Hooper, as well as two beloved daughters Sharon Hooper and Shawn Gilbert. Doris is survived by her three
children Cheryl Vinisko, Darwin Hooper, and Marvin Hooper. Doris was a loving and devoted grandmother, affectionately known as "Grandma." She leaves behind eighteen grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends. She will be missed tremendously by all who knew her.
The debt for our appreciation cannot be expressed in words. We've been blessed by her presence. Even though we have lost an extraordinary Mother, the stability and wisdom gained from her through out the years has given us the strength to overcome the deep sense of sorrow as well as future challenges.
