

Douglas R. Gordon, age 73, residing at 130 Safari Drive in Needles, CA passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2013. Doug was born on August 9, 1939 in Custer, SD, the son of Donald and Beulah Gordon. His childhood through high school was spent in Montague, CA where he enjoyed all sports, deer hunting, and fly fishing in local streams and rivers. The love he had for the arts was encouraged by his high school art teacher, mentor, and lasting friend Jan Cozzalio. This spark led to his graduation from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA, where he excelled in designing and crafting fine jewelry. Doug met his future wife Judy in Bakersfield, CA, and they were later married on September 24, 1968. Doug found full time employment with the Santa Fe Railroad where he continued to work for 40 years. This resulted in his moving to Needles, CA where he remained for the rest of his life. Hobbies included playing on the Colorado River, designing and making jewelry, being involved with his children, and later taking up creative woodworking. Doug is survived by his son Eric S. Gordon of Tempe, AZ, daughter Andrea L. Gordon of Las Vegas, NV, brother and wife Curtis and Jane Gordon of Dixon, CA, niece and husband Kerrie Gordon and Scott Marsland of Ithaca, NY, nephew Brian Gordon and his son Corey Gordon of Frederica, DE, cousin and wife Chris and Shirley Alger of Placerville, CA, as well as numerous other cousins.
Services are to be held on August 16, 2013 at 1:00pm at Dimond & Sons Mortuary in Needles, CA. Dimond & Sons will be in charge of arrangements, and may be contacted at 928-763-5440.
