Duane was born on February 25, 1936, in Pierz, Minnesota, and grew up on a small family farm, where he developed a strong work ethic and a lifelong passion for gardening. He attended high school in Little Falls, Minnesota, finishing his senior year at the newly established Father Pierz Memorial High School in Pierz. After graduation, Duane answered the call to serve his country by volunteering for the draft and proudly spent two years in the Army, stationed on Grand Island, NY.
In 1962, Duane was united in marriage to Kathryn Ann Chapek on August 25. Their love story began in Omaha, Nebraska, where Duane had moved for a job opportunity selling fire alarms, and it continued to grow as they built their life together. After a few years in Nebraska, Duane and Kathy settled in Austin, Minnesota, in 1965, where they raised their five children.
Duane built a successful career doing direct sales. He worked as a stockbroker, commodities broker, and insurance agent. His passion for the stock market and his sharp mind for numbers kept him engaged in investing and tracking his stock portfolio, right up until the very last day of his life.
Duane had a love for playing games and all kinds of gambling. In 1978, Duane’s competitive spirit shone through when he triumphed in the St. Paul Winter Carnival Golf Classic, winning the tournament in snow and freezing zero-degree temperatures. Beyond golf, Duane's passion for sports extended to his love of Minnesota and Las Vegas sports teams. He was never far from the game action, engaging in everything from fantasy football, gin rummy, blackjack, bridge, bowling, bingo, cornhole, and the casinos in Las Vegas.
In 2000, Duane and Kathy relocated to Las Vegas, moving into a home on the golf course in Sun City to indulge in his love for golf. In 2021, the couple moved into Legacy House Assisted Living, as Duane was always looking ahead and striving to ease the burden on his family.
In 2020 Duane's family gave him a Storyworth book subscription for Father's Day, providing him a way to share his memories and reflections. Over the next seven months, Duane wrote over 100 stories, which were published into a hardcover book. He was incredibly proud of this accomplishment and enjoyed sharing his stories with his many friends at Legacy House.
Duane was deeply proud of his large family, which he prayed for daily. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy (Chapek) Poser; his sister, Terri (Jerry Berg) Sanoski of Mesa, AZ and Cushing, MN; his five children, Nancy (Peter) Breyfogle of Seattle, WA, David (Debbie) Poser of Las Vegas, Judy (Bob) Hoeft of Marshall, MN, Dean (Cindy) Poser of Las Vegas, and Joyce Torgerson of Las Vegas; his nine grandchildren, Jordan (Riley) Leone of Duluth, MN, Alex (Francesca Udeschini) Breyfogle of Seattle, WA, Chelsea (Chad) Faso of Las Vegas, Nate (Julia Meyer) Hoeft of Shoreview, MN, Lynsey (Sam) Nagy of Las Vegas, Kyle Poser of Las Vegas, Jacob Poser of Spokane, WA, Kennedy Torgerson of Las Vegas, and Mitchell Torgerson of Las Vegas; and five great-grandchildren: Vance Faso, Troy Nagy, Shane Faso, Drew Nagy, and Lainey Leone.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Regina (Millner) Poser, and sister, Connie Poser.
A funeral mass will take place on Friday, March 28 at 12:00 PM, at St Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, with a viewing at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Palm Northwest Mortuary & Cemetery.
