It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edward "Eddie Mac" McCann, a beloved husband, father, brother, coach, and friend. Ed, a proud fourth-generation Nevadan, passed away the morning of November 30th, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Ed was born July 9th, 1956, in Henderson, NV to Melvin & Susan McCann. He grew up in Overton, NV and attended Moapa Valley High School, where he was a standout athlete and student. Ed was married to his cherished wife, Debbie, sharing a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Chase and Brian, 2 grandsons, Jacob & Brody who will carry on his legacy. Ed was the eldest of five siblings, the brother to Denise Gonzales (Richard) Crystal McCann, Keri Cervantez (Rueben) and Kyle McCann (Shannon). He had 5 nephews, 3 nieces and 2 great nephews who adored Uncle Eddie. He is preceded in death by his parents
His family was his world, and his infectious spirit was evident in every family gathering where he was undoubtedly the life of the party. His laughter was contagious, his stories endless, and his presence a beacon of joy.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Ed's heart bled crimson and cream for his beloved Oklahoma Sooners. His love for Boomer Sooner Nation was only surpassed by his dedication to baseball, where he found his true calling. Coaching was more than a job for Ed; it was his life's work, his passion, and his way of giving back to the community. After graduating from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Coach Mac began his baseball coaching career in 1979 at Mannford High School in Oklahoma. He had the opportunity to move to the college level and he did not hesitate to accept it. He coached many years at the D1 level University's at which 12 years were at Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. He made the decision to come back to Nevada to be closer to family and finished coaching at Moapa Valley High School and Boulder City High School. He also coached for the Garciaparra baseball organization (GBG) in Las Vegas. He spent countless hours on the field, mentoring young athletes not only in the sport but in life, instilling values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
Ed's legacy will not only be remembered through the games played, championships won or the countless "Mackinisms" he was famous for, but through the lives he influenced. His approach to coaching was holistic, aiming to shape well-rounded individuals who would carry the lessons learned on the diamond into their everyday lives.
Coach Mac was a teacher at Ruby Thomas Elementary School where his students loved him and called him Coach Mac & Cheese.
A Celebration of Life will be held January 18th, 2025, at the Suncoast Hotel Ballroom from 1PM-5PM where stories of his humor, his love for the game, and his dedication to his family and friends will be shared. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be made in memory of Coach Mac to this baseball fund to continue his mission of nurturing the next generation of young athletes on the baseball field. Ed will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, in the cheers from the stands, and in every diamond where young players learn the game he loved so much.
Rest in peace, Coach Mac, your innings here may be over, but your impact will resonate for many seasons to come.
