

Eliza accepted Christ at an early age and attended the public schools in Tallulah, LA. She spoke fondly about her childhood in Tallulah and her grandparents, Douglas and Lealure Groves who raised her.
Upon completing school, Eliza worked several jobs in the service industry to include working at the Bus Depot in Tallulah, LA where she was well liked and respected. In her early 20’s she met and married her husband, James D. Simon to whom she remained married until his death in 1979.
Eliza and James moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1970’s and she began working at the Riveria Hotel and Casino as a housekeeper and porter until her retirement.
Eliza united with the Greater New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. F.M. Addison and Bishop James M. Rogers. She remained a faithful member until her health began to fail.
Eliza was a faithful worker, loving mother and kind to all that she encountered. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She would often say that there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her family. Eliza was always available to listen and share her caring heart with others.
Eliza made her heavenly transition on December 20, 2023. She was the second eldest of eight children and was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Henderson and Emma Grove; husband, James D. Simon, siblings; Bertha Henderson, Ruby Henderson, Lealure Davis, Earline Henderson, Curtis Bynum, West Bynum Jr. and Porter Henderson; granddaughter, Wendy Henderson, grandson Joe Henderson, great grandson, Autry Johnson and great granddaughter, Dominque Smith.
Eliza affectively known as Tee, leaves to cherish and celebrate her life: one son, Joe Cooper III (Barbara) , three granddaughters, Daniell Smith (Tony) , Andrea Henderson all of Las Vegas, NV, Angela Bigsby of Atlanta, GA and one brother, James Henderson (Gloria) of Las Vegas, NV; a host of great grandchildren; a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins and friends.
