CPO ELMER KNURBEIN U.S. Navy, Retired Elmer E. Knurbein, 78, of Las Vegas, passed away February 24, 2011. He was born December 13, 1932, in Berger, Missouri, and was a 30-year resident of Nevada. He retired from the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam and Korean wars. Elmer was a snowbird in Las Vegas before moving here permanently. He worked in Lybia (w/Esso) and Saudi Arabia as an engineer with ARAMOCO. He was a former actor and appeared in Guys & Dolls and Barnum (Barnum & Bailey) and also helped build sets for several other productions. Elmer enjoyed going to Naval ship reunions and lunching with shipmates. He was an avid gadget shopper. Elmer is survived by his daughter, Kim M. Swatek; son-in-law, Alan D. Thompson, both of Las Vegas; son, Gary E. Knurbein and daughter-in-law, Svetlana Knurbein of Las Vegas and Russia; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Sharon Day of Las Vegas. Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26, at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Avenue. Donations can be made to Disabled American Veterans.
