

Elvin Clarence "Clyde" Dawson, age 70, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2014 in Las Vegas. He had been a resident of Las Vegas for 50 years. He was born September 19, 1943 in Huntington, West Virginia to Elvin Charles and Regina Martin Dawson. He attended Junior College in San Jose, California in 1965 where he played basketball. He was then recruited to play basketball for the UNLV Rebels from 1965-1967. He worked for the Clark County School District as a Human Relations Administrator before going to work for the City of Las Vegas. He was a supervisor of the Doolittle Center in West Las Vegas for ten years from 1974-1984. Afterwards he supervised Dula Gym and the Las Vegas Senior Center. In 1992, Elvin was named "Employee of the Year." He retired from the City of Las Vegas in January, 2001. He began working in the family business, Sonitrol of Nevada, in 2002 until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Robert Dawson. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Joyce Roberts, children: Ramon Clyde (Jasmine) Dawson, Angell Brown, Regina Dawson and Janice (Eugene) Ellis; grandchildren: Chasity, Charde, Chantel, William, Isaiah and Justin; great-grandson Damion; and a host of family members, friends and loved ones. A funeral service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., where family will receive friends from 5-7pm Friday and from 1-3pm Saturday.
