

Elzina Brown Adkins was a caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at the age of 73.
Elzina, who was known to many as “Zee”, was born in Los Angeles, California to Square Thomas Brown and Evelyn Robinson on February 23, 1948.
Elzina completed her Bachelor’s degree at Cal State University in Los Angeles, California. After teaching for several years, she went back to school to complete a Master’s degree in Education.
Although she grew up around poverty, she was always driven to succeed. She was the first member of her family to graduate high school and pursue her education. Elzina's pride was in her school, students, teaching, and business. She shared her passion for learning with thousands of children and adults over her long career.
On her birthday in 1968, Elzina gave birth to her first son, Philip L. Jones, who she raised for years as a single mother.
On July 8, 1978, she married Omega L. Adkins. Together, they had one child: Nathan O. Adkins. Omega and Elzina were happily married until her husband’s passing in 2004.
In 2005, after over 30 years in education, Elzina retired and began her new life in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was passionate about traveling and spent her retirement years cruising with friends whenever she had the opportunity.
Elzina held an unwavering faith in God and passion for educating, which she shared with those who came into her life. Her loving heart and bigger than life personality will leave a lasting impact on the lives of her friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Square T. Brown and Evelyn Robinson, her loving husband Omega L. Adkins, and her three brothers, Shawnee, Jesse, and Joe.
Elzina is survived by her two brothers, Thomas and Raymond, two sons, Philip and Nathan, four stepchildren, Cynthia, Michael, Regina, and Lisa along with four biological grandchildren, Gabrielle, Mason, Ella, and Evelyn. Ten additional step-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren as well as the many children whose lives she touched through education.
